Samsung Elec heir richer than Hyundai Motor group chair in this year’s dividend

Samsung Group has turned generous in dividend payout this year, making its Lee family richer as result so that the heir to the Samsung empire would be earning more than Hyundai Motor Group chairman this year from dividend income.

According to the Financial Supervisory Service`s (FSS) electronic disclosure, Samsung Group and Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Kun-hee will be paid 190.2 billion won from payouts in 2017 from Samsung Electronics (137.4 billion won), Samsung Life Insurance (49.8 billion won) and Samsung C&T (3 billion won). Lee, bedridden from 2014, received 177.4 billion won in dividend payout last year.

His son now running the group on behalf of his father and vice chairman of Samsung Electronics Jay Y. Lee expects 46.8 billion won ($ 40.81 million) in dividend income this year, beating out Hyundai Motor Co. Chairman Chung Mong-koo who will be rewarded 46 billion won.

Lee would get 23.1 billion won from Samsung Electronics, 18 billion won from Samsung C&T, 5.3 billion won from Samsung SDS, 300 million won from Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance and 100 million won from Samsung Life Insurance. The income is up from last year’s 37.3 billion won.

The Lee family would earn combined 283 billion won from their stakeholding. Hong Ra-hee, director of Leeum Samsung Museum and the wife of Samsung Group head Lee, is pledged with 29.8 billion won in dividend payout from Samsung Electronics. Chairman Lee’s two daughters, Lee Boo-jin, CEO of Hotel Shilla and Lee Seo-hyun, president of Samsung C&T’s fashion division, will receive 8.1 billion each from their equity-holding. The two daughters have no stake in Samsung Electronics.

Hyundai Motor Group Chairman Chung Mong-koo will earn 34.2 billion won from Hyundai Motor which pays out 810.9 billion won and 11.8 billion won from Hyundai Steel which rewards its shareholders 98.5 billion won this year. Chairman Chung’s son and Vice Chairman Chung Euison will be paid a combined dividend of 23.9 billion won from Hyundai and Kia Motors, Hyundai Wia and Innocean.
