South Korea’s SK Chemicals Co. said its self-developed polycyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate (PCT) dubbed as super engineering plastic will be mounted on cars from this year.
SK Chemical has registered its super engineering plastic PCT as a standardized auto part material, making them legitimate auto electrical connectors.
The PCT is high-strength, heat-resistant plastics used in making industrial products. The PCT is expected to further improve automotive connector’s strength and durability, according to the company. Auto parts makers have so far used polybutylene terephthalate and polyamide in making vehicle’s electrical connectors.
In 2012, SK Chemical succeeded in the commercial production of PCTs for the second time in the world.
Shares of SK Chemical rose 1.71 percent, or 1,000 won, to close at 59,400 won ($50.84) on Tuesday from the previous session in Seoul trading.
