Nissan Motor Co. said Friday it appointed Huh Sung-joong as new president of Nissan Korea Co. Huh will replace outgoing chief executive officer (CEO) Takehiko Kikuchi and take office on Feb. 1. He has become the first Korean head of Nissan Korea since its launch in 2004.

After joining the firm in 2005, Huh has worked in diverse fields including sales and marketing in multiple markets such as Korea, Australia and the Philippines. He is currently Vice President for Sales, Marketing and Dealer Development in Nissan Philippines, Inc.

The Japanese automaker also tapped Kang Seung-won, the sales department head, as new CEO of Infiniti Korea Co., effective Apr. 1.

Nissan has come under fire in Korea for fabricating environmental documents to receive government certifications for Infiniti Q50 and Qashqai in 2016. It has been slapped with a 330 million won ($280,612) fine and sales ban for Qashqai sport utility vehicle (SUV) in May and other punitive measures for Infiniti Q50 sedan in November last year.
