Kia Morning returns to the mini category in a sporty and stylish makeover for the first time in six years in hopes to redeem the top position in the Korean compact car market that had recently been dominated by Chevrolet Spark.

Kia Motors Corp., the country’s second largest automaker, Tuesday unveiled “All New Morning”, the third-generation model dubbed as “Smart Compact” following up on the last model in 2011 in highlighted reliability, driving stability, space, fuel economy, and connectivity despite being small to appeal to young first-time drivers who mind the look and convenience as well as their pocket condition. The car hits the U.S. and European markets under the name of Picanto.

Kia pitched that its new mini car would excel others in the same category in stability, safety, driving performance, and fuel economy.

The car features next-generation chassis and platform with 44 percent advanced high strength steel body to ensure safety doubled from the previous version, mounted with Kappa 1.0-liter Eco-prime engine for maximum horsepower of 76 and torque of 9.7kgf.m as well as 5.9 percent improved fuel efficiency from the previous model to deliver mileage average of 15.4 kilometers per liter.

Kia hopes the enhanced vehicle stability on top of sleeker design could appeal not only to young people but also the 40s or higher generation seeking affordable second cars. It targets to sell 85,000 units this year at home alone. It drew more than 4,000 pre-orders over the first two weeks.
