Renault Samsung Motors Co., the Korean unit of French carmaker Renault Group, aims to sell 270,000 cars this year including more than 120,000 at home through a mix of traditional and novelty cars including a single-passenger electric vehicle, said its chief executive Park Dong-hoon on Wednesday.

In the first half, the carmaker introduces Renault Clio, the fourth update in the mini model since its debut in 2012, he said in a press conference. He pledged that the company will prove that even hatchback can do well in Korea.

Another small model it ambitiously releases in the latter half this year is “Twizy,” its first EV in single and double seat which could be safer alternative to scooters and motorcycles for deliverymen, he said. “We will test out demand in the first half and release the vehicles in the showroom upon market demand,” he said.

The carmaker is confident that it will be able to set new standards in the mini and compact segment as it had done with sedan models SM6 and QM6 SUV, he said.

SM6 was selected the best-selling midsize sedan last year and sold 57,478 units. It outperformed Hyundai Motor’s Sonata in terms of registration - 50,431 units versus Sonata’s 35,023.
