U.S. sports brand Under Armour emerging as formidable rival to established sports brands Nike and Adidas opened its biggest flagship store in Gangnam, southern Seoul.

Under Armour announced Wednesday its goal to achieve 800 billion won ($680 million) in sales within the next five years during a press conference. Founded in 1996 in the U.S., the company raked in $5 billion in global sales last year. From 2010, it beat Adidas to become the world’s second-largest sportswear vendor by corporate value.

Under Armour items that have so far been available by Galaxia Corp., a subsidiary of Korean textile manufacturer Hyosung Group, since 2012 will be marketed directly by the local operation of the brand’s U.S. headquarters.

Aside from Nike and Adidas, sales of sports brands including Descent and Reebok in Korea amount to 600 billion won. Under

Armour aims to command half of the market in three years, David Song, country manager of Under Armour Korea said.

In the 1,983 square meters of space over a floor, plus a basement, the store displays training apparel for men and women, items for running, basketball and golf and footwear. It also provides space to experience various sports.

The company plans to open four more stores by the end of this year and run 170 outlets across the nation by 2019. It will open its second brand house in March at Garosugil, one of the trendiest districts in Seoul. The brand will introduce sports fashion line unfamiliar to Koreans such as for fishing, hunting and military, the country manager added.
