China has become routinely in picking on South Korean imports. Air purifiers became the latest to be shunned by Beijing customs authorities. The list gets longer and longer spanning from bidets to cosmetics as Beijing turned blatant about using economic and trade muscle after Seoul defied its strong opposition and decided to install U.S. antimissile system in Korea last year.

According to sources from the industry on Friday, the Chinese quarantine and inspection authority disqualified four Korean air purifiers made by LG Electronics Inc. and Shinil Industrial Co. on December 20. Korean products made up half of the eight air cleaners the authority disapproved for not having met its tougher safety and performance criteria. It was the first ban since it had tightened the quality standard of air cleaners last year.

The move raised suspicion because the disqualified product PS-P809 of LG Electronics had already been discontinued in 2015. The product has not been produced and sold in China since then.

Last month, the Chinese authority disallowed imports of 43 bidets made in Korea for not having met its labeling and safety requirements. Among the 47 disqualified products, 43 were Korean ones. On January 3, 19 Korean cosmetics failed to gain import approval from the authority out of total 28 disqualified products.
