South Korea`s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. has become the best-selling brand in Chile for the first time.
According to Chile`s auto association ANAC, the Korean automaker sold 31,398 cars in Chile last year, up 22.2 percent from 25,700 in 2015. Hyundai Motor has been the only brand that sold more than 30,000 units in the Chilean market in 2016.
Hyundai Motor ranked no. 2 in 2014 with annual sales of 32,757 units. In the following year, it was outpaced by Chevrolet and Kia Motors.
New releases of sports utility vehicle brands Creta and i20 Active were received well on top of steady sellers Accent that sold 10,987 units and Grand i10 selling 5,464 units. Hyundai Motor also released eco-friendly label Ioniq Hybrid last year.
Its smaller affiliate Kia Motors Corp. ranked third with 28,864 units trailing Chevrolet, driven by compact cars Rio and Morning and hatchback Sportage.
