The Kenbo 600, a sports utility vehicle going as S6 in China made by state-owned BAIC Motor, became the first Chinese passenger vehicle to venture into the Korean market.
Its distributor ZH Motors Co. said Wednesday that price-wise, the Kenbo 600 could steal potential customers for Ssangyong Motor’s gasoline-fueled small SUV Tivoli 1.6 or popular compact sedan Avante of Hyundai Motor.
The biggest appeal is the relatively cheap price tag for its size as it is “cheaper than subcompact SUVs, yet as big as compact SUVs, according to ZH.
The Kenbo 600 is a midsize SUV - 4,695 millimeters (mm) long, 1,840 mm wide, 1,685 mm tall. Fitted with a gasoline turbo engine, it sports a maximum of 147 horsepower with a 21.9-kgf.m torque and combined fuel efficiency of 9.7 kilometers per liter.
Its biggest strength lies in its competitive price. Its common model is priced at 19.99 million won ($17,143) and premium model at 20.99 million won.
The car has added features tailored to Korean customers’ needs such as cruise control, Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS) and smart key.
It is also designed for safe driving fitted with six air bags and chassis built using high-strength steels.
