S. Korea approves recall plan of Volkswagen’s Tiguan

The Ministry of Environment said that it on Thursday approved the recall plan for the vehicles comprising two Tiguan variants submitted by the German automaker as the latest plan has met the requirements. The government rejected the company’s first recall plan in June last year. Volkswagen submitted a revised recall plan four months later.
The cars subject to recall are among the 125,515 vehicles the government ordered Volkswagen to recall in November 2015. Since Volkwagen’s emissions scandal widened in September 2015, the Korean government had inspected the German auto giant’s cars sold in the country for two months and concluded it used defeat devices for 125,515 vehicles across 15 models to circumvent emissions testing. The government revoked certificates of the cars that were immediately banned from sale and slapped it with a 14.1 billion won ($11.9 million) fine and recall order.
The government will also receive recall plans for the remaining 99,000 cars for review.
