South Korea`s Kia Motors Corp. sported the Stinger, the mass-produced version of its 2011 showcase car, during the Detroit Auto Show held on Monday in the U.S. The premium rear-wheel, five-seat performance sedan coupe is based on the Gran Turismo (GT) concept that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011 and will be available in Korea during the first half of this year.

The car offers roomy interior quarters despite its low height and long wheelbase inspired by the aircraft body. It also features powerful drive performance, reinforced steel body and advanced safety technology.

The new model has a fast-back styling, with Kia’s signature Tiger Nose grill and the front fender gills linking to the swept roofline to the dual exhaust pipes. The four-door coupe has a length of 4,830mm, width 1,870mm, height 1400mm and wheelbase of 2,905mm and with a large loading capacity at 660 liters.

The Stinger comes in two gasoline engine types: Theta II 2.0 turbo GDI and Lamda II V6 3.3 twin-turbo GDI.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine delivering 255 horsepower and 36.0kgf·m of torque propels the base Stinger, and the higher-spec Stinger GT features a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V-6 that delivers 370 horsepower and 52.0kgf·m of torque, which can manage 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds, the fastest acceleration performance among Kia models.

Rear-wheel drive is the default with a second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is also available with both engines, which is the first 4WD sedan developed by Kia.

The new sedan has a stiff body, where 55 percent is comprised of high-strength steel, and is equipped with Kia`s Drive Wise suite of safety features.
