LG Electronics Inc. that is going all out to improve its smartphone business lagging far behind its rivals’ will provide after-sales smartphone services powered by artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

South Korea’s electronics giant said on Monday that it will introduce remote after-sales services by adding big data analytics and machine learning features to its storage and memory managing application Smart Doctor within the first quarter this year to enable its devices to find solutions and fix problems on their own.

The company’s AI-based services, for instance, would suggest users to adjust screen brightness or close idle applications to conserve power. It would also recommend users to tune and optimize resolution and frame rate of their game apps to save battery life. The company’s Quick Help and Remote Consulting apps will be updated with the latest log analytics features.

“Our devices updated with the technologies would provide diagnoses and solutions more quickly and accurately,” said an official from the company.

The Quick Help is a premium service that allows LG Electronics’ G and V series smartphone users to consult with experts via email or chatting 24/7. Its Remote Consulting app also allows users to get direct consulting without visiting to its after-sales service centers.

“Offering quality after service is as important as providing quality products,” said Cho Jun-ho, president of LG Electronics and head of its Mobile Communications (MC) division. “We will continue to work hard to provide convenient and reliable services to our customers,” he added.

The Korean consumer electronics giant reported an operating loss of 35.3 billion won ($29.6 million) for the fourth quarter ended December mainly due to struggling smartphone business. After reporting its first operating loss in six years, Jo Seong-jin, chief executive officer and vice chairman of LG Electronics, said on Saturday that the company will enhance smart wireless applications in home appliances and robotics to stay in the mobile device competition.
