Samsung Electronics Co fielded upgraded series of premium 4K TV lineup backed by its proprietary quantum dots as backlight - quantum dot light emitting diode (QLED) TV series Q9, Q8, and Q7 - in the heated contest over image quality at CES 2017 trade show in Las Vegas, the U.S. on Tuesday (local time).

“2017 will mark a major paradigm shift in the visual display industry, ushering in the era of QLED,” said Kim Hyun-suk, chief executive of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. The tech giant coined it’s the new 4k (ultra high definition) LCD TV powered by quantum dots as QLED TV upon adoption of new metal alloy “Quantum Dot” technology to help the consumers easily remember the new TV technology.

The new quantum dot technology enables the QLED TV to display contents in a more diverse range of color and excellent contrast, which is essential for a good picture, compared to conventional TVs. The latest premium TV also boasts excellent viewing angle allowing the contents to be seen without color distortion when the TV is watched at any angle, thanks to its panel structure optimized for the new quantum dot technology.

The QLED TV also offers more simplified design to help the viewers to focus more on the contents displayed on the TV without distraction from what is surrounding the device such as cables and wall mounts. “With our 2017 lineup, the focus remains where it should be … not everything surrounding it,” said Dave Das, Senior Vice President of Consumer Electronics Marketing for Samsung Electronics America.

The new TV series comes with a single, transparent cable that connects the TV with its peripheral devices as well as “no-gap wall-mount” making it possible to fix the TV closely against the wall. The TV stand design also is upgraded to offer more stylish design.

The QLED TV has become smarter. The QLED TV is integrated with the “Smart Hub” interface that allows consumers to control TV through smartphone app - playing live TV programs, checking show times, and even adjusting picture settings with voice command.
