Band-type smart key

Band-type smart key "H-Band"

South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co. is expected to adopt band-type smart keys for its cars starting next year or 2018 at latest for the first time in the local auto industry, hoping that new wearable car keys would help to propel its car sales.

According to the auto industry Friday, Hyundai Motor is preparing to introduce a band-type smart car key, which is wearable on wrists, for cars to be sold in the local market. So far, none of cars in the domestic auto market has adopted such a wearable car key.

With this smart device, a driver can open car doors and trunk, and start the engine of the car from remote areas. The key is also expected to feature real-time fitness tracker such as monitoring heart rate during sleep or workout.

Hyundai Motor has already introduced its first-generation band-type smart key “H-Band” for its family sedan “Verna Yuena” in China in October. An unnamed official at Hyundai Motor said the sedan armed with the new smart key was sold like hotcakes, with its sales volume surging from 5,887 units in October to 15,422 units in November. He said the sedan’s latest convenience features, including band-type smart key H-Band, Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife, helped to boost its sales in China.

Hyundai Motor’s next-generation smart key to be introduced in Korea is expected to be an upgraded version of H-Band, with a watch function and improved design.
