Hyundai Motor`s new Tucson
South Korea’s top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. expects to achieve sales milestone of exceeding 500,000 units each in Europe and India. Sales of 1 million units would make up 20 percent of the company’s total global sales.
Hyundai sold 466,651 cars in Europe in the first 11 months of the year, up 8.7 percent from the same period last year, according to the European Automobile Manufacturers` Association (ACEA) and the Korean automaker Sunday. Annual sales likely will reach 511,000 units. Sales in India gained 6.1 percent to total 460,480 units as the end of November. Sales in the two regions have doubled from 2006.
Hyundai has benefited from the improvement in living standards of Indians who now place more importance in safety and functional options than before. In Europe, Hyundai rose on the boom in sports utility vehicles. Share of SUVs now takes up 20 percent of new car sales in Europe, which means one out of every five cars sold is in SUV.
Sales of new Tucson jumped 37 percent on year to 144,864 units as of November.
At 13:48 p.m., shares of Hyundai Motor rose 1.79 percent or 2,500 won ($2.11) to 142,000 won in Seoul trading Monday.
