South Korea will grant multiple-entry visa typically restricted to public officials, businessmen and researchers of five-year validity to Chinese tourists who pay at least 3 million won ($2,537) for a single visit to Korea starting as early as next month.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said Friday that it will allow visa-free entries to big spenders from China for up to five years for travelers paying at least 3 million won for a four-day stay in Korea from next month. The visa enables a month’s stay per visit.

The move is to prevent further complaints from budget group tours and encourage wealthy Chinese to come more often to the country.

The government has been advising travel agencies to develop high-end theme-based packages such as in beauty care, health care and entertainment to add value to the tourism industry.

Chinese tourists as of October took up 48 percent of foreign visitors to Korea, gaining 40 percent from the same period last year to reach over 7 million. Monthly visitors have been fallen from September after Beijing is suspected to have commanded travel agencies to restrict group tours to Korea in retaliation to Seoul’s decision to deploy U.S. antimissile system in South Korea.
