South Korea’s largest automaker Hyundai Motor Co. will showcase self-driving IONIQ at the largest consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. It will be the first time that Hyundai Motor tests its driverless vehicle on the road for global audience.

Hyundai Motor will hold an event to unveil its self-driving IONIQ concept car to reporters before it officially shows off its autonomous driving and other technological edge at the annual Consumer Electronics Show, which will be held from Jan. 5 to 8.

The autonomous-driving concept electric vehicle, which was first unveiled at the LA Auto Show, has met all the requirements of the U.S. Society of Automotive Engineers for Level 4 automation that certified the car as a de facto self-driving vehicle. At level 4, a car can carry out all driving tasks autonomously and safely with human intervention only in case of sudden incidents. Although it is lower than level 5 in which vehicles can operate completely independently, level 4 is regarded as autonomous driving. No automakers have developed vehicles that meet level 5 standards.

The IONIQ EV is powered by an advanced smart cruise control (ASCC), lane keeping assistance system (LKAS) camera and LiDAR system.
