South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. has won a 160 billion won ($137 million) order to supply a gas turbine and a power generator to Egypt`s state-owned power suppliers Upper Egypt Electricity Production Company (UEEPC) and Cairo Electricity Production Company (CEPC).

The nation`s leading power equipment maker said Monday that it received a notice of award (NOA) from UEEPC and CEPC to build and test run a 650-megawatt (MW) turbine for the Assiut Power Plant, which is currently under construction by UEEPC, and a generator for CEPC`s Cairo West Power Plant by April 2020.

It is the company’s first successful bid in the Middle Eastern country in six years since it obtained a 400 billion won order to supply a boiler for the Ain Sokhna Power Plant in 2010.

The company has beaten global competitors including GE, Siemens and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), said Park Hong-kwon, head of Doosan Heavy’s turbine and generator business group. With this deal, Doosan Heavy has proved its competitiveness in overseas markets and will seek to accelerate winning orders in Asia and North Africa, Park added.

Shares of Doosan Heavy ended up 0.4 percent, or 100 won, at 26,400 won in Seoul trading Tuesday.
