South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries Co. is close to landing orders worth $800 million for Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU) from Dutch natural gas carrier Hoegh LNG Holdings as early as next month.

According to the Dutch company’s statement on its website, the company signed a letter of intent (LOI) with Samsung Heavy Industries, consigning the Korean dockyard to make and deliver a 170,000 cu.m FSRU. It would sign a final contract in mid-January which would also give Samsung Heavy optional rights to build three additional FSRUs for complete delivery by 2020.

FSRU is an onshore facility that stores liquefied gas from carriers transferred through offshore pipelines. The 170,000 cu.m FSRUs have regasification capacity of 750 MMScf/day and full trading capabilities.

Hoegh did not disclose the value of the deal. The deal, however, is estimated at $800 million as the facility is priced at $200 million per unit. Once final, the facilities would carry delivery dates of two units in 2019 and two units in 2020.

Shares of Samsung Heavy Industries closed Thursday at 9,070 won ($7.82), up 1.23 percent or 110 won from the previous session.
