South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. said Monday it will drop criminal and administrative charges against Dyson Ltd. after the British home appliances maker humbly apologized for disgracing the Korean company’s name through unfair public display pitching its cordless stick vacuum was better than LG’s.

Under the latest out-of-court settlement, Dyson apologized for using LG product for publicity on its product through a performance comparison review in February in Seoul before foreign and Korean press. It removed the demo video from its website and promised not to repeat such stunt.

Dyson admitted that the comparison was unfair using a bulkier LG product to augment easy-to-use and light feature of a Dyson stick vacuum.

Right after the demonstration, LG Electronics sent a complaint to Dyson founder and chief engineer James Dyson and CEO Max Conze, demanding they should apologize for the test and promise not to repeat similar marketing practice. Dyson did not accept LG’s demand immediately.

In April, LG Electronics filed charges with the Seoul Central District Prosecution against Dyson for violating local business, antitrust trade and advertisement laws, and also reported to the Fair Trade Commission of falsified advertising activity. Dyson’s local dealer came under prosecution raid and probe in early June.

In October last year, LG Electronics won a lawsuit against Dyson in an Australian court that made the company withdraw its advertising material from packaging and retail stores claiming its product as the most powerful stick vacuum.

The Korean electronics maker maintains its Cord Zero canister with maximum suction capacity of 205 watts is the most powerful stick cleaner so far available.
