All-New IONIQ achieves five-star Euro NCAP rating

South Korea`s Hyundai Motor Co. said on Thursday its three All-New IONIQ models received the maximum five-star safety rating from the independent vehicle assessment organization Euro NCAP.

Euro NCAP established in 1997 is a well-known assessment program for cars sold in Europe and the assessment results affect worldwide consumers in deciding to purchase new cars.

In the test, the IONIQ models - all three electrified powertrain models that are hybrid, electric and plug-in hybrid - achieved top marks in the four categories such as Adult Occupant, Child Occupant, Pedestrian and Safety Assist, proving they are one of the safest cars in its segment, according to the company’s statement.

The company also said the IONIQ features a long list of standard active safety functions on all versions including Autonomous Emergency Braking with pedestrian detection, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist and Smart Cruise Control, the company said.

The IONIQ Hybrid hit the European auto market in September, followed by the IONIQ Electric.
