Kia Motors’ Soul EV

Kia Motors’ electric car model Soul EV claimed the top position in monthly sales in German electric car market last month and inches closer to achieving sales milestone of 20,000 units this month.

According to European Alternative Fuels Observatory, a European Commission arm that tracks the green fuel and vehicle data, Kia’s Soul EV was sold 327 units in the German market last month and became the best-selling car of the month, followed by BMW i3 (274 units), Audi A3 e-tron (266 units) and Renault Zoe (147 units).

In cumulative sales from January to October, the new Renault Zoe came first with 2,262 units sold. Audi A3 e-tron (1,272 units), Tesla Model S (1,230 units) and Kia Soul EV (1,229 units) trailed tightly in the second group.

A total of 19,300 EVs were sold in Germany, up 11 percent from the same period last year.

Soul EV was launched in 2014 based on the compact CUV Soul, and the electric car has recorded the largest sales among Korean eco-friendly cars except for hybrid models. The car is expected to achieve cumulative sales of 20,000 units in November this year.

The car sold 19,968 units as of the end of October at home and abroad, selling 6,868 units so far this year. Sales jumped to 10,865 in 2015 from 2,235 units in the debut year of 2014.
