South Korea’s InssTek Inc. has elbowed out its larger global rivals in winning orders to export its metal 3D printers to European countries.

Metal 3D printer manufacturer InssTek said on Thursday it signed two separate contracts to provide giant metal 3D printers for precision lamination to Germany and Russia.

InssTek signed a $2.3 million contract to provide one metal 3D printer to RUDN University in Russia and stroke a $1.2 million deal to export its metal 3D printer MX-450 for alloy development to Friedrich-Alexander University in Germany, according to a company official present at the Formnext, a leading exhibition for 3D printer makers held in Frankfurt, Germany on November 15-18.

The official said InssTek had a close bidding race with French metal 3D printer BeAM in Russia and U.S. metal 3D printer Optomec in Germany.

The company’s 3D printer MX-Grande to be exported to Russia employs a direct lamination method to create a large complex metal structure that measures 4 meter (m) wide, 1m long and 1m high. The Korean company claimed this is the world’s largest 3D printer.
