Koreans shop for pricy home appliances such as refrigerator after dark, snacks and beverages in the afternoon, and meat before noon, according a study on online consumer behavior. Men’s clothing is bought most in the daytime and women’s at night.

In the study by the Maeil Business Newspaper on consumer sales in the January - October period at Emart Online Mall, 42.9 percent of refrigerators were sold between 6 p.m. and midnight. Other pricey home appliances such as furniture (39.6 percent) washing machines and air conditioners (39.6 percent), electronic image devices (39.2 percent), computers (38.1 percent) also were mostly sold during the night time.

Milk power and baby food (34.3 percent), children’s clothing (32.3 percent), milk and yogurt (31.4 percent) were bought mostly at night. This may be due to the fact that working mothers shop after they come from work and put children to sleep, an official at Emart explained.

Between 8 a.m. and noon, beef and pork were sold more than any other time zone.

Men and women shopped at different time zones. Around 33.9 percent of women’s clothing was sold between 6 p.m. and midnight, and 32.8 percent of men’s clothing between noon and 6 p.m.
