Michelin Guide for Seoul awards three stars to La Yeon, Gaon

The French company Michelin’s first-ever Michelin Guide for Seoul awarded three stars, its highest ranking, to two high-end Korean restaurants, Hotel Shilla Co.’s La Yeon and Gaon located in Chungdam-dong.

Michelin Korea announced Michelin Guide for Seoul on Monday that listed more than 140 restaurants and 30 hotels in Seoul of which 24 restaurants received stars. This Michelin Guide was the 28th edition in the world and fourth in Asia after Japan, China, and Singapore.

Three stars were given to La Yeon and Gaon, and Lotte Hotel’s French restaurant Pierre Gagnaire and two Korean restaurants Gotgan and Kwon Sook-soo received two starts.

A total 19 restaurants including Yu Yuan at Four Seasons Hotel, Dining in Space, Mingles, Barugongyang, Ristorante Eo, Jungsikdang, 24 Seasons, Jinjin, Alla Prima, Keungiwajip, Soigne, Bicena, Boreumsae, Votre Maison, Zero Complex, Kojima Sushi, Poom and Hamo were awarded one star.

Michelin awards one star to “a very good restaurant in its category,” two stars for “excellent cooking, worth a detour,” and three stars for “exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.”
