South Korea’s leading cosmetics and personal care products maker LG Household & Health Care Ltd. will launch a new dermo-cosmetic brand called Dr. Belmeur through its subsidiary The Face Shop Co. in a move to grab a bigger share of the growing market that combines cosmetics and dermatology - or beauty-care and health.

It is the first time for budget cosmetics label The Face Shop to launch its own dermo-cosmetic brand. LG Household & Health Care currently manages four functional labels - CNP Cosmetics, CNP Rx, Carezone, and Dermalift.

According to The Face Shop on Tuesday, skin-care solutions under the new Dr. Belmeur brand use mild ingredients recommended by dermatologists, living up to the name of dermo-cosmetics where products are made of medically-verified and functional ingredients. They are mainly sold at local drug stores.

Dr. Belmeur skin-care solutions apply Skin-sync Rx, a customized formula for specific skin types that help soothe sensitive skin and form skin barriers. The Face Shop said that the new label is suitable for consumers with sensitive skin as all items have undergone skin stimulation test to check harmful preservatives and chemicals such as paraben, benzophenone-3, and talc.

LG Household & Health Care has been eyeing the growing dermo-cosmetic market in recent years. The volume of world’s dermo-cosmetics industry has reached about 35 trillion won ($30.8 billion), and the Korean market in particular has been showing more than 20 percent growth every year. The market size is estimated to have reached over 100 billion won in 2015 after reaching 68 billion won in 2013 and 82.2 billion won in 2014.
