South Korea’s LG Electronics Inc. has sent a letter to home appliances maker Miele accusing the German counterpart of infringing on a dozens of its patents on steam washing technology and hinting it was open to amicable settlement on the issue, according to the tech industry on Tuesday.

The Korean electronics giant released the world’s first front-load washer featuring steam washing technology in 2005. It holds more than 500 patents related to the technology at home and abroad.

The steam cleaning enhances cleaning performance and reduces water and energy use significantly as the steam nozzle keeps injecting hot steam to laundry. It is also effective in removing smells, wrinkles and allergens, the company said.

LG demanded a response from Miele by the end of this month in the letter. Miele reportedly is working on a response in the way to meet LG`s demands.

An official from LG said the company would take legal actions should Miele do not come up with appropriate out-of-court settlement package.
