Samsung Electronics Co.’s ill fortune following the debacle with its latest premium phone Galaxy Note7 has translated into windfall for its Chinese smartphone rivals.
Samsung Electronics ranked fifth in a latest consumer poll by local researcher Penguin Intelligence. The brand approval ratio for Samsung Electronics came to 7.2 percent in the September survey topped by China’s largest maker Huawei with 38.3 percent, followed by Apple (18 percent), Oppo (10.1 percent) and ViVo (8.3 percent).
The world’s top smartphone maker also lost its share in the global market in the wake of a global recall and subsequent discontinuation of Galaxy Note7. According to market researcher TrendForce, Samsung Electronics share in the smartphone market slipped to 22.3 percent in the third quarter, down 2 percentage points from the previous quarter.
