South Korea’s leading display panel maker Samsung Display Co. has made a foray into the public information display (PID) market that is set to grow rapidly, launching the company’s official PID site and developing PID dedicated fabrication process.

The company said Thursday that it opened an official site dedicated to its PID monitor, pid.samsungdisplat.com, and its customers can find not only detailed specifications of its PID monitors and their applications but also purchase information on the site.

PID panels are used for video walls, indoor and video walls, indoor and outdoor signage monitors, interactive whiteboards, stretched (32:9) displays and transparent commercial displays that are easily seen almost everywhere. From educational institutes, control rooms, hotels, retailers, bus shelters, subway stations and airports to stock exchanges, the panels are used not only as a means of advertising, but also as a source of real-time information.

Samsung Display claimed that its PID panels promise the industry’s second-to-none digital signage solutions with a 1.7 millimeter-thick bezel, brightness rating of 5,000 nits and ultra-high-definition (UHD) resolution. It has also applied PID-dedicated designing technologies and fabrication processes to manufacturing of its PID panels for the first time in the industry, according to the company.

Yang Oseung, vice president and head of the LCD marketing team at Samsung Display, said, "This new PID communication portal provides our customers and future customers with easy ‘anytime-anywhere’ access to important information that simplifies decision-making in the purchasing and use of PID panels."

Annual revenue for public displays is expected to grow from $5.8 billion in 2016 to $12.7 billion in 2020 at an annual growth rate of 22%, the company said in a press release citing market research firm IHS Markit Ltd.
