Samsung Electronics humbled from global ridicule and a series of lawsuits from consumers after a major recall and eventual pullout of combustion-prone Galaxy Note7 received a small comfort from one of its customer thanking its reliable waterproof technology for saving lives.

An Australian woman posted a thank-you note on Samsung Electronics Australia facebook page after sharing an episode of how Samsung Galaxy S7 - another premium version the company released in March with similar waterproof and other cutting-edge features as ill-fated Galaxy Note7 except for the bigger-screen’s prized iris scanner and stylus pen - ended up saving lives of her boyfriend and his friends waiting for rescue after their fishing boat capsized in the wee hours last weekend.

They didn’t have a radio or an EPIRB for vessel distress. After floating in frigid waters for three hours, her boyfriend remembered he had a water resistant phone he bought a few months ago. He was able to get a call through to emergency services. With his Galaxy S7, he was able to stay in contact with emergency services while the search was underway, and after about an hour or so later, the group was pulled from the water alive and well, she said.
