Doosan GridTech, U.S-based energy storage systems (ESS) unit of South Korea’s Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. won a $6 million order to supply energy storage solutions to U.S public electric utility Austin Energy three months after the Korean company took over the U.S. ESS provider, the firm announced on Monday.

Under the terms of agreement, the ESS provider will supply 3 megawatt-hour storage systems to electric power stations in Austin, Texas. ESS is a system that helps to boost energy efficiency by controlling energy inputs on needed basis.

This is the first major order for Doosan GridTech, formerly 1Energy Systems, since the parent Doosan Group took over the U.S.-based ESS solutions provider through Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction in July this year in a bid to secure the original ESS technology.

Doosan Group has been exploring new growth engines in the energy sector after it had vigorously reformed its business structure by selling off its machinery tool, defense, and heat recovery steam generator units, to weather global economic slowdown during the past two years.
