Moon Jae-in, former head of the main opposition Minjoo Party of Korea dubbed as the promising candidate from the opposition camp for next presidency, vowed to scrap various forms of corporate levies and make sure that companies need not have to worry about extra regular contributions to the state beyond legitimate taxes.

Quasi-tax is anti-corporate. It does not make sense of lowering corporate tax to encourage companies to invest and then collect billions of wons from companies behind the door, Moon said in an exclusive interview with the Maeil Business Newspaper Monday.

He cited the widening wage gap among employees of large and smaller companies and regular and irregular workforce is the major source of labor conflict. Moon whose voting stronghold is in the working class and unions said the union of large companies should yield a little and share the burden to help ease the discrepancies.

The management and government also should do their part to share the burden, he added.

Moon, who unsuccessfully ran against President Park Geun-hye in 2012 election, called for overall overhaul in the tax code. Taxation on high income and inheritance as well as property rent income should be toughened.

The former opposition leader who long argued for higher levies on large companies said it was better to ensure efficiency in tax collection from companies before revising the corporate tax system.
