Hyundai Motor Co. is recalling some 84,500 Genesis Coupe sold in the United States manufactured from 2010 to June 2016 that could practically affect almost all of the Korean carmaker’s sports sedans on the U.S. roads due to an airbag problem.
According to sources on Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has found fault in the wiring harness connector in the occupant classification system in the front seat of Genesis Coupe model which could trigger the airbag to deploy even when it shouldn’t and potentially hurt child or passenger on the front seat. The Genesis Coupe earlier this year was discontinued after the carmaker focused on a luxury brand lineup bearing the same Genesis name.
The recall for the repair will start in December.
