Samsung Electronics said on Wednesday that it will collaborate with U.K. energy supplier British Gas to promote energy-saving solutions. British Gas, which has provided gas and electricity to U.K. households for over 200 years, is committed to improving home energy efficiency to reduce carbon emissions.
In this partnership, Samsung Electronics’ SmartThings Energy solutions will be integrated with British Gas’s energy reduction scheme called ‘Peak Save.’ Peak Save incentivizes households that voluntarily decrease their power usage during peak times and this integration aims to allow U.K. consumers to easily save energy by reducing power consumption during peak hours in the winter.
SmartThings Energy offers various solutions, such as switching home appliances to artificial intelligence (AI) energy-saving mode or automatically turning off power, contributing to energy conservation.
Samsung Electronics has been actively participating in demand response (DR) projects in collaboration with organizations including the Korea Electric Power Corporation, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Naju City. The company is also trialing DR services in California and New York, with plans to expand its services globally.
