Korea’s Hyundai Merchant Marine Co. Wednesday said it will make its emergency fleet travels on the U.S. shipping route to help out cargo shipments across the Pacific due to operation disruption of Hanjin Shipping Co. after it filed for court receivership late August part of its regular service from this week.

The second major shipper ran substitute service from Sept. 9 on the U.S. route after vessels of its larger local rival were denied of port calls and cargo unloading and loading on concerns of its insolvency.

Hyundai Merchant Marine said it will run five containerships for regular once-a-week trip leaving Korea’s southern ports of Gwangyang and Busan to reach Long Beach in Los Angeles after a stop in Shanghai from Friday. The ships are in capacity of 4,000-6,000 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units).

The ships will clear up empty container boxes amassed in LA Long Beach Terminal where Hanjin Shipping used to anchor to help stabilize logistic services in Korea and around the world, the company said.
