South Korea’s biggest cosmetics company AmorePacific Corp. on Tuesday halted sales of its 11 toothpaste products found to contain the same toxic chemicals used in Oxy Reckitt Benckiser’s humidifier sanitizers that had claimed about 100 lives.

Consumers can get refunds when they bring the products to the nearest stores or at AmorePacific’s customer service center without receipts. The problem products include six Median brands and five Songyoem brands.

The nation’s major retail chains E-Mart, Homeplus and Lotte Mart have removed the products from their shelves immediately after the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety on Monday ordered a recall of the 11 toothpaste products, saying that they contained chloromethylisothiazolinone (CMIT) and methylisothiazolinone (MIT). The two preservatives have been banned from use in toothpastes in Korea.

The ministry said that the products contained 0.0022 to 0.0044 parts per million (ppm) of CMIT/MIT, far below than the European Union’s permissible limit of 15 ppm, adding that they pose no harm to humans especially after washing out with water.

AmorePacific shares closed Wednesday at 396,000 won, down 4,000 won or 1 percent from the previous session.
