The labor union of South Korea’s leading automaker Hyundai Motor Co. on Monday entered its first full-fledged strike in 12 years amid little progress in wage negotiations.

The entire domestic production lines in Ulsan, Jeonju and Asan would come to full stop on Monday. From Tuesday to Friday, the walkout would last six hours and four hours on a day negotiations with the management take place.

The union embarked on a full strike after the 26th round of talks on Friday broke down.

Hyundai Motor union has already carried out 19 rounds of partial walkouts since wage negotiation began this year. The partial strikes have cost the company 2.23 trillion won ($2 billion) equivalent to 101,400 units of vehicles.

The labor union is demanding entire new wage proposal from the management.

The management said it was disappointed by the labor union for going on a full strike even as the representatives had reached an agreement in a wage deal. The two parties will however continue with talks during the strike period. The union members earlier voted down the deal reached between the management.

As of 2: 22 p.m., Hyundai Motor share price was 140,000 won, down 2,000 won, or 1.41 percent, from the previous session.
