Korea’s AJ Rent-A-Car begins rental service in L.A.

South Korea’s leading rental car agency AJ Rent-A-Car Co. will kick off its U.S. operation next month, becoming the first in the industry to enter the U.S. rental car market.

According to AJ Rent-A-Car Thursday, the firm has set up a local branch in Los Angeles, California, to provide full-fledged rental car service starting October. The U.S. car market is estimated at 2.3 million units and is increasingly becoming segmented as to provide business opportunities for Korean latecomers, the company said.

It will first target Korean Americans, Korean expatriates and Asians in California in initial stage. Its service will be convenient for visitors and students without credit records in the U.S., it said.

The firm opened its first branch on the Wilshire Boulevard, the principal street of Los Angeles Koreatown. An average number of 280,000 Koreans have been to Los Angeles last year.
