Samsung Electronics Co. unveiled most powerful to date third generation, 48-layer Vertical NAND (V-NAND) solid state drives (SSDs) 960 PRO and 960 EVO.

The South Korea’s tech giant showcased the new line-ups of its Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD and introduced new strategies to expand its presence in the market at Samsung SSD Global Summit 2016 in Seoul on Wednesday.

The 960 PRO, available in 512GB, 1TB, 2TB capacities and the 960 EVO in 250GB, 500GB and 1TB capacities will be released to 50 countries worldwide including Korea, the U.S., China and Germany starting October.

The company said in a statement that the 960 PRO provides the highest capacity commercially available for M.2 NVMe SSDs and is poised to conveniently meet the needs of personal data and information storage.

The 960 PRO, featuring 3rd generation V-NAND, high-speed controller and firmware delivers peak sequential read speed of 3,500 MB/s and write speed of 2,100 MB/s, 30 times faster than hard disk drive (HDD) and is capable of transferring and storing a high-resolution movie in just one to two seconds.

Its random read and write IOPS reach up to 440,000 and 360,000, respectively, allowing users to process massive amounts of data for everything from gaming and large file transfers to video rendering.

They are also highly energy efficient as they can operate in L1.2 power saving mode and feature an overheating protection function.
