Hyundai to open Seoul’s largest department store in Yeouido in 2020

Hyundai Department Store Co., one of South Korea’s top three department store operators, said on Wednesday that it will open a department store in the commercial district of Yeouido that would be the largest-scale in the capital.

According to Hyundai Department Store, it has been selected as the preferred bidder to operate a commercial facility inside Parc1, a new multi-complex area that will be built in Yeouido, western Seoul, near International Finance Center.

The new department store will have seven underground and nine ground level floors and command total floor area of 89,100 square meters, becoming the biggest shopping complex in Seoul upon opening in 2020.

Currently, Shinsegae Department Store in Gangnam, southern Seoul, is the largest department store with total floor area of 86,500 square meters, followed by Lotte Department Store in Myeong-dong, central Seoul, with 71,000 square meters.

An unnamed official from Hyundai Department Store said that its new retail outlet in Yeouido will be built based on a new concept that is more advanced than its recently-opened store in Pangyo, Gyeonggi, which is regarded as the country’s most up to date retail facility.
