New concept shopping mall Starfield Hanam opens

Korea’s largest shopping mall complex Starfield Hanam established by Korean retail giant Shinsegae Group in partnership with U.S. Shopping mall developer Taubman Asia formally opened on Friday.

The multiplex mall, commanding an area of 460,000 square meters in Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, offers shopping, entertainment and relaxation services in a single building that houses more than 750 retail names.

Its main tenants include Shinsegae Department Store, E-Mart Traders, Electro Mart, No Brand Shop, Molly’s Pet Shop and 35 high-end labels including Louis Vuitton and Prada.

The mall offers a wide range of domestic and foreign selections from premium grocery store “PK Market,” baby products store “Marie’s Baby Circle,” toy seller “Toy Kingdom” to car showrooms such as “BMW Mini City Lounge” and “Genesis Studio.”

The “Sports Monster” provides indoor experience for outdoor activities like climbing and bike racing. “Aquafield” is comprised of a water park, massage and spa club. The venue also houses “Megabox cinema” and bookstore “YP Books.”

Dining space commands an area of 10,700 square meters, featuring “Gourmet Street” built along the outdoor terrace and “Eatopia,” a new concept food court.

“We wanted to pave the way for an entirely new shopping experience space,” said Shinsegae Group Vice Chairman Chung Yong-jin said at the opening ceremony.

Shinsegae estimates 820 billion won ($747.3 million) in sales in its first year and 5 trillion won over the next three to four years.
