South Korea’s KEB Hana Bank proved its supremacy in the skill of catching counterfeit bills, having identified $110,800 million worth, or 89 percent of $124,900 faked foreign money discovered in Korea in the first half.

The bank picked out 102 faked notes in U.S. dollars, 73 in Chinese yuan and 2 in Japanese yen.

It had combed out $240,000 faked notes last year, or 91 percent of forged foreign currencies found at local banks.

The bank established a real-time counterfeit notes detection system that identifies forged money using scanned images in September 2012, for the first time in the industry. It hired Lee Ho-jung, who formerly worked at the National Intelligence Service to oversee the system in 2013. The bank established Counterfeit Notes Response Center -the only one of its kind run by a domestic financial institution in the country - in November 2014. It purchased advanced image analysis equipment typically used by investigation authorities and state intelligence agencies worldwide and even advanced than the equipment at local law enforcement offices.
