South Korea’s financial chief demanded Hanjin Group to take aggressive action to solve the cargo crisis with ports around the world denying unloading and entries of Hanjin Shipping vessels and seizing them amid concerns of not getting their overdue payment back after the shipper went under court protection last week.

“This is beyond moral responsibility,” said Financial Services Commission Chairman Yim Jong-yong Monday. “International crediblity of Hanjin Group is on the line,” he said adding that Hanjin Shipping has the responsibility of complying with its terms with clients and delivering the products on time.

Yim reminded that Hanjin Shipping, even under court receivership, still is a part of Hanjin Group. Operation of 61 containerships and 18 bulk carriers out of 128 ships in service has been disrupted since Hanjin Shipping sought court receivership after its creditors dumped the shipper and refused any further funding.

Vessels of the world’s seventh major shipper have been denied access to ports and help in unloading across the world including the U.S., China, Japan, Spain and Canada. One of its container ships has been seized in Singapore.

Hanjin Shipping would have to pay overdue payments to run its fleet, but without immediate cash injection from Hanjin Group, disruptions in the trade front will likely worsen.

Shares of Hanjin Shipping that were re-allowed to trade on Monday went on a rollercoaster ride. Upon opening, they plunged 30 percent from previous closing and then recovered 18 percent. By the end of the day, the shares ended at 1,070 won ($1), down 13.7 percent.
