Luxury bag and luggage brand Moynat of the world’s largest luxury goods conglomerate LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton SE (LVMH) opened its boutique stores in Seoul, South Korea, its fourth store in Asia since it touched down in Beijing in China, Hone Kong and Tokyo in Japan.

Established by Pauline Moynat in France in 1849, the brand had been recognized for its distinguished design and expertise for traveler’s trunks, but the brand went into obscurity over time. Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH, brought Moyant back to life after acquiring the brand rights and putting it under LVMH in 2010. Since then, the brand has been recreated with modern design while reflecting the heritage of Moynat.

Revived as a high-end brand with high price tags similar to those of luxury brand Hermes, Moynat opened Moynat Gallery Shilla at Hotel Shilla on Tuesday and a boutique at the Gangnam Branch of Shinsegae Department Store on Wednesday.

Lee Boo-jin, president of Hotel Shilla, is said to have worked hard to recruit the luxury brand. Shinsegae Group successfully launched Moynat after it had also worked closely with LVMH as part of efforts to invite luxury brands like Louis Vuitton to its new duty-free outlet. The group earned approval from the government for the duty-free business operation last year.

Since Moynat started to go global, it has been unusual for the luxury brand to simultaneously open two stores in one country.
