A South Korean security solution developer Rowem Co. has developed a new digital security technology that would almost completely prevent hacking with a four-digit numeric code that will be randomly converted into a 16-digit password.
According to the information security company on Wednesday, its new solution - dubbed S-pinpad - automatically generates a 16-digit mixed code consisting of numbers, alphabets and special characters when a smartphone user enters a four-digit number as a password. For example, if the user types in 5, the solution generates a four-digit mixed code like #3A7.
The mixed code changes randomly in the server every time a user types his or her password, making it almost impossible for a hacker to hack nearly unlimited combinations of 16-digit password consisting of numbers, alphabets and special characters unlike those four-to-eight-digit pass codes currently widely used, said Rowem head Ahn Tae-ho.
Rowem also said its users would not have to worry about other people peeping into the four numeric codes as the S-pinpad solution works only in the user’s smartphone where the password is originally stored.
Rowem’s S-pinpad solution has been already well received by local financial and securities firms that require high level of mobile security. In March, Yuanta Securities Co. signed a contract with Rowem to apply S-pinpad technology to its mobile trading system tRadar M on June 18. Meritz Securities Co. is also in the process of installing the S-pinpad to its mobile with the goal of completing in September.
Ahn from Rowem said that the company expects to supply its S-pinpad solution to about 30 brokerage firms this year. Rowem aims to raise 20 billion won ($18 million) in sales this year and 150 billion won next year.
