China’s Huawei Technologies Co. is set to release its first-ever 2-in-1 tablet PC MateBook in the Korean market on Thursday in what it will be the Chinese wireless company’s first press conference in Korea.

The hybrid laptop, unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February this year, is the first PC device of the China’s leading smartphone maker.

The MateBook, equipped with Microsoft’s Window 10 operating system, Edge browser and digital personal assistant Cortana is emerging as a competitor of MS’s Surface tablet.

It is powered by a sixth-generation Intel Core M processor that allows it to stay cool without a fan, helping the device to run silently. It is priced at 889,000 won ($813) for the lower-end model with M3 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The top-end models that come with M5 processor, 8GB RAM and 256 GB storage carry a price tag of 1,299,000 won. Its optional keyboard costs 129,000, stylus pen MatePen 79,000 won and Mate Dock 99,000 won.

The MateBook only weighs 640g and 6.9mm thin. Its high-density lithium-ion battery lasts nine hours and is fully-charged in just two hours.

The company also releases its MediaPad M2 tablet that is equipped with 8-inch full-HD display, 2GB RAM, 16 GB storage and 4,800mAh battery and runs Android 5.0 operating system. It is priced at 299,000 won.

Huawei chose Shinsegae I&C Inc. as a distributor of its products. It starts selling the products at online stores such as 11st Street, SSG.com and Ticket Monster and will expand sales to offline retailers.
