Hyundai Motor’s Tucson tops H1 new car sales in Germany

South Korea’s biggest automaker Hyundai Motor Co.’s compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) Tucson became the top-selling new car in the first half of this year in Germany, the largest market in Europe. Its sales volume over the cited period stood at 13,454 units, followed distantly by the second best-selling model Ford’s Mustang with 3,337, according to the German Association of the Automotive Industry on Friday.

The Tucson, debuted in the German market in January this year, recorded average monthly sales of 2,242 units in the first half, far surpassing Ford’s Mustang with 556 units and Fiat’s Tipo with 337 units, the association said.

Sales of Tucson ranked 36th among the entire 328 car models sold in Germany during the January to June period, the highest among Hyundai and Kia vehicles. It was the second best-selling Asian brand, trailing Japanese carmaker Nissan’s compact crossover Qashqai that took 33rd place after having sold 14,869 units in the first half.
