China’s Huawei Technologies Co. continues to provoke its bigger South Korean smartphone rival by recruiting a former executive of Samsung Electronics after challenging the Korean giant at court over patents.

Huawei, the world’s third largest phone maker, recently hired Andy Ho as vice president of its consumer business unit in the Greater China region. He had been working for Samsung Electronics Co. until April as senior vice president in charge of sales in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

The latecomer has unabashedly been offensive towards its bigger rivals to the point of ignoring international business customs and code of civility. It sued Samsung Electronics for patent infringement regarding the fourth-generation (4G) mobile communications technology in the U.S. and China in May. It unveiled its new high-end Honor Note 8 just three days prior to Samsung’s release of Galaxy Note 7 in hopes to steal the limelight for the second-half unpacking of new phones.

In October last year, Huawei hired former Apple creative director Abigail Sarah Brody as its chief user experience (UX) designer last October. She worked on the design of the first iPhone. Yang Zhe is another former Samsung executive that Huawei scouted as chief marketing officer back in 2012.

Huawei with insignificant presence beyond China has been trying to draw media spotlight whether it be good or bad publicity.
