South Korean government will create a Korean-culture themed café district in Indonesia in a bid to support small business owners expanding into the global market.

Small and Medium Business Administration (SMBA) on Wednesday held a meeting with local business owners at the Bojeong-dong Café Street, south of Seoul, and announced its plan to create a Korean-culture themed café district named K-Town in the outskirt of Jakarta, Indonesia by late 2018. The Bojeong-dong Café Street is a stretch of around 120 cafés and restaurants that are popular among local trendsetters.

The SMBA plans to set up the café district in Indonesia modeled after the Bojeong-dong Café Street with a target to develop it as a new attraction site in the Southeast Asian country. Also, the Korean government plans to join hands with the Korea Small Business Association to help Korean small business owners to open a coffee shop in the K-Town in Indonesia.

The SMBA will also set up the so-called antenna shop for the small business owners next year. The antenna shop will conduct market research, tap demand, and measure marketing effects prior to the small entrepreneurs start a business in Indonesia.

The meeting at Bojeong-dong Café Street was attended by head of SMBA and the shop owners of the café street to discuss the difficulties for the small business owners to make advancement into the global market. There are financial challenges and other difficulties for an individual small business owner to make inroads to overseas market, said Joo Young-sup, SMBA minister, as he added they need to work together as a team to advance into the world.
