Myanmar Development Institute, an economic think tank to be launched soon in Myanmar with the support from South Korean government, named Min Ye Paing Hein as the economic strategy development center’s first director.
According to Korea Development Institute on Tuesday, Min Ye Paing Hein will assume the director’s office of Myanmar Development Institute around December.
Myanmar Development Institute is an institution that will act as the leading economic think tank of Myanmar and conduct various researches with an aim to elevate the country’s economic prosperity.
It is a part of Korea’s official development assistance provider Korea International Cooperation Agency and Korea Development Institute’s official development assistance (ODA) commitments that was agreed between the heads of Korea and Myanmar after a summit in 2012. It is also the first case for Korea Development Institute to disseminate its system in a foreign country.
Myanmar Development Institute will be opened at Naypyidaw, the capital city of Myanmar.
Prior to joining Myanmar Development Institute, Min Ye Paing Hein worked as the economist and poverty specialist at the World Bank. He received doctor degree in social science and political economy from the University of Wisconsin, the U.S., and he is fluent in Burmese, English, and Mandarin Chinese.
